When you think of an excavator, you probably imagine it at a construction site or doing road work—they’re versatile and powerful machines, after all, capable of doing otherwise-impossible work. But did you know that there are just as many uses for an excavator on your farm? We here at Bobcat of New Hampshire want to make sure you have all the tools you need and know all the ways to use them, so we’ve put together a few of our favorite farm uses for an excavator. To learn more, or to see the excavators we have for sale, contact our stores in Chichester and Hudson, New Hampshire, today!

Lifting Heavy Materials or Items

Excavators are powerful machines with a lot of horsepower behind them, making them ideal for lifting heavy items or materials that you might have to struggle with otherwise. For instance, if you have a lot of fertilizer bags in storage on an upper level of, say, your barn, you don’t need to carry them down by hand one at a time. Let the excavator do the hard part!

You can stack up hay bales, deliver feed to your livestock or other animals, move seeds into a hopper, and so much more! If there’s a job on your farm that requires some heavy lifting, an excavator is the perfect tool for you.

Digging

Of course, the excavator gets its name from its primary purpose: excavating. And you might be surprised at just how many jobs around the farm you can get done with a machine built for digging. For instance, you can dig ditches for various irrigation purposes, clear sites to make way for the construction of new sheds or barns, dig trenches, and more.

Additional Projects

It may seem like those two uses pretty much round out how an excavator could be used on the farm, but there’s nothing further from the truth. You can also use them to help clear stumps, or apply a wide variety of attachments and implements to expand the machine’s utility even further. An excavator, properly equipped, can help you:

  • Build a fence.
  • Clear out weeds and underbrush.
  • Mulch leaves and grass.
  • Clear land to make way for crops or livestock grazing.

Of course, the only real limits to the many uses for an excavator on your farm are your imagination and your excavator’s specs. If you have any questions on the topic, want to better understand your excavator’s specs, or just need a new excavator altogether, contact us at Bobcat of New Hampshire.
