How It Started
The history dates back to 1947, when EG Melroe launched the Melroe Manufacturing Company and a small factory in Gwinner, North Dakota. The company tasted phenomenal success within the first few years, and when the founder died in 1955, his sons took over the business.
After three years, they met Cyril and Louis Keller at the Minnesota State Fair, who had a background in repairing farm equipment and had crafted a front-end loader. The Melroe brothers were impressed with the product the Kellers had designed and hired them eventually.
M440, released in 1962, was the first product named Bobcat. Although it was a nickname for the company, they adopted it officially in 2000 and rebranded as Bobcat Company.
Why Are Bobcat® Tractors Painted White?
Initially, Bobcat machines were painted yellow and red. However, once the company started expanding, these machines came to be used by the fertilizer and dairy industries. Since they needed their equipment to look spick and span, Bobcat changed their color scheme to represent a spotless look—white and red.
