Company History
The company’s history can be traced back to 1947 when E.G. Melroe initially opened his business, which was known as Melroe Manufacturing Company. It was a great success until his passing in 1955. His sons took over the business and eventually met Cyril and Louis Keller.
Until that point, the Kellers were focused on farm equipment repair. When a customer mentioned how challenging it was to clean the second story of their turkey barn, the Kellers developed a simple front-end loader with two drive wheels and a caster wheel. The invention was a hit at the Minnesota State Fair, which is where they met the Melroe brothers.
Together, the group of brothers worked hard on developing new products. The first Bobcat product, the M440, was launched in 1962. This was a nickname for the company for quite some time, but by 2000, the name was officially changed to Bobcat Company. The lineup expanded quite a bit over the years, so it’s easy for customers to find an ideal match for their needs.
